I/O Module
Frequency Generator Module: Two Variable Clock Outputs (50MHz –
950MHz); Two Variable Analog signal Outputs (Covering 300MHz –
1000MHz); Two Variable Trigger Outputs (75Hz – 5MHz) |
| The SMT321 is
a single width TIM module. It is capable of
generating two separate LVPECL triggers, two
separate analog test signals with the frequency
depending on the VCOs on the board, and two separate
LVPECL clock signals.
The triggers are generated by a
Xilinx Spartan 3 FPGA (XC3S400 – TQ144). This
FPGA also controls the frequency of the analog test
and of the clock via control register setup over the
Comport. The analog test signals are generated by
two separate VCO’s (Microwave Corporations
UMS series
of VCO’s) for different frequency ranges. Finally
the two clock signals are generated by Micrel high
frequency clock synthesizers (SY89430V).
The SMT321-H can generate analog test signals
covering the 300 – 1000 MHz range. It can also
generate two independent LVPECL clocks ranging from
50 – 950 MHz.
The user sets up the triggers, analog and clock
signals in the FPGA via the Comport interface. There
is no FPGA configuration device on the module. The
FPGA configures with the help of a microprocessor
over the Comport. This makes the module more
flexible as it is easy for the user to download a
custom bit-stream to the FPGA.

ADC Module
ADC Module, 2 channels 2.5MSPS 16 bit; Sundance Digital Bus
interface; Com ports |
The SMT379 TIMADC.
The ADC section implements a high speed Analogue-to-digital
converter (16-bit, 2.5MHz,
AD9260).
ADC Sampling and clock selection is done under control of the FPGA
via the Clock Buffering circuitry.
The Clock Buffering circuitry consists of high-speed differential
ECL devices capable of supplying a very accurate low Jitter
differential clock to the ADC. The Clock Buffering circuitry also
selects between the External Clock, Oscillator Clock and Divided
Clock from FPGA as the clock source for the ADC.
An external clock enable/trigger input is available on the
SMT379. Function selection of this signal between ADC Sample Clock
Enable or ADC Sample trigger is done under software control. When
configured as a clock enable, ADC Sampling can be selectively
enabled (gated) allowing for accurate user control of the data
capturing sizes this is especially relevant in burst mode
applications. When configured as a trigger ADC sampling for a
specified burst size will be performed each time the trigger is
asserted active.

The SMT382 is a 12
Channel differential RS422 Transceiver, capable of 10Mbaud transfer
rates with ESD protection on the RS422 I/O’s and high source/sink
current capabilities. It is supplied on a single width TIM module
and has an interface to other TIM sites in the system via the Global
Expansion Bus. An on-board Sundance Digital Bus (SDB) is also
provided to allow the output RS422 data to be sourced from another
SDB TIM site or the incoming RS422 data to be streamed to another
SDB ompatible TIM.
The module uses three ‘on-board’ QUAD UARTs based on the OX16C954
device, each. Each uses a 18.432MHz crystal to generate a
programmable baud rates.
The SMT382 has a Virtex FPGA, XCV300, which is used to implement 12
UART’s internally each having programmable Baud, data width, parity
and stop protocol. The FPGA is configurable using 3 methods.
· On-Board Serial PROM, type XC/AT17LV020, in a 8-Pin DIL socket.
· X-Checker Header.
· The TIM Comm-Port 3, via the XC95144 CPLD.
