ADC Module
ADC Module, 8 channels 1.2MSPS @ 16 bit; Sundance Digital Bus interface
The SMT317 offers a building block for scalable Analogue to Digital data collections starting from 8 channels and reaching as many as 256 channels by cascading eight SMT317s together. The single width Module has eight AD7723. from Analog Device Inc. and these are 16-bit complete sigma-delta ADC converters with a 1.2MSPS sampling rate. This device has on-chip filtering combined with a high over-sampling-ratio reduces the external anti-alias requirements to first order in most cases. I/O Module
Frequency Generator Module: Two Variable Clock Outputs (50MHz – 950MHz); Two Variable Analog signal Outputs (Covering 300MHz – 1000MHz); Two Variable Trigger Outputs (75Hz – 5MHz)
The SMT321 is a single width TIM module. It is capable of generating two separate LVPECL triggers, two separate analog test signals with the frequency depending on the VCOs on the board, and two separate LVPECL clock signals.

The triggers are generated by a Xilinx Spartan 3 FPGA (XC3S400 – TQ144). This FPGA also controls the frequency of the analog test and of the clock via control register setup over the Comport. The analog test signals are generated by two separate VCO’s (Microwave Corporations UMS series of VCO’s) for different frequency ranges. Finally the two clock signals are generated by Micrel high frequency clock synthesizers (SY89430V).

The SMT321-H can generate analog test signals covering the 300 – 1000 MHz range. It can also generate two independent LVPECL clocks ranging from 50 – 950 MHz.

The user sets up the triggers, analog and clock signals in the FPGA via the Comport interface. There is no FPGA configuration device on the module. The FPGA configures with the help of a microprocessor over the Comport. This makes the module more flexible as it is easy for the user to download a custom bit-stream to the FPGA.

  • Six separate channels consisting of two triggers, two analog signals and two clock signals
  • Triggers range from 75Hz to 5MHz and the high and low time of each trigger is programmable
  • Triggers can be continuous or a single pulse with a programmable high time
  • Each analog signal varies in frequency depending on the VCOs mounted
  • Standard Sundance Comports interface for easy FPGA configuration and module setup

ADC Module
ADC Module, 2 channels 2.5MSPS 16 bit; Sundance Digital Bus interface; Com ports
The SMT379 TIMADC. The ADC section implements a high speed Analogue-to-digital converter (16-bit, 2.5MHz, AD9260). ADC Sampling and clock selection is done under control of the FPGA via the Clock Buffering circuitry.

The Clock Buffering circuitry consists of high-speed differential ECL devices capable of supplying a very accurate low Jitter differential clock to the ADC. The Clock Buffering circuitry also selects between the External Clock, Oscillator Clock and Divided Clock from FPGA as the clock source for the ADC.

ADC Module
ADC Module, 2-Channels 210MSPS @ 12bits;
SMT390 is the first of a range DAQ Modules from Sundance that uses Virtex-II Pro FPGA and a unique ‘Double-Decker’ inter-connections concept that separate the Digital control functions from the noise-sensitive DAQ semiconductors. ADC Module
ADC Module; Dual Channel 1GHz, 8-bit ADC
The SMT391 is a single width expansion TIM that plugs onto an SLB base module such as SMT338-VP7-5 (Virtex-II Pro), SMT398-VP (Virtex-II Pro) or SMT368 (Virtex4 FPGA)

The SMT391 is a single width TIM module. It is capable of sampling two analog inputs at 1 GSPS with a resolution of 8 bits. An Atmel duel channel ADC (AT84AD001) performs the analogue to digital conversion.

The Xilinx FPGA (Virtex II-Pro or Virtex 4 for SMT368) on the base module is responsible for handling data going/coming to/from one of the following destination/source: TI converters, Comport (TIM-40 standard), Sundance High-speed Bus (SHB), Memory on some base modules (DDR or QDR) and RocketIO Serial Links (RSL). These interfaces are compatible with a wide range of Sundance’s modules.

  • Dual channel ADC (Ideal for I & Q channel applications)
  • 1GHz sampling frequency
  • 8 Bit data resolution
  • Custom Clock and Trigger inputs via external connectors

I/O Module
Multi-output Clock Generator; Single/Dual tone; Sine/Square waves; Dual 400MSPS DDS; SLB Mezzanine Module
SMT399-160 is a single width expansion module (SLB mezzanine module). It offers an integrated solution for high-speed sine-wave generation (up to 160 MHz), single or dual tone, with the option of having sine or square waves. The module is to be plugged onto an SLB base module such as SMT338-VP7-5, SMT398-VP or SMT368. It is built around two AD9954s. All Direct Digital Synthesizers are controller by an FPGA (Virtex II Pro or Virtex 4) present on the SLB base module. Channels can be combined in pairs to output dual-tone signals. Direct Digital Synthesizer offer fine tuning and fast hopping, which makes the SMT399-160 ideal for generating sampling clocks for analog converters and for testing systems. The SMT399-160 offers the possibility of cascading several modules for more complex signal generation.

PrPMC Solution
PMC Carrier for a single TIM Module
The SMT410 is a single site module carrier board that provides access to a TIM module over the PCI Mezzanine Card bus.

An on-board JTAG controller allows systems to be debugged using Code Composer Studio. This JTAG controller also has buffered outputs that can be accessed using connectors on the carrier’s back panel. This allows off-board devices to be connected into the JTAG chain.

A single buffered ComPort with conflict protection is also available on the chassis back panel. This will have the versatility to access all six ComPorts on the TIM. The main connection to the PCI bus is via the module Global Bus. A single ComPort is also be mapped to the PCI bus providing support for application boot and data transfer.

A 1 MB of SRAM is mapped on to the Global Bus and can be accessed by the TIM as a global resource or by the PCI Bridge. The board requires a 3.3 volt supply that is derived on board and is made available at the fixing pillars for the module

  • Single module site
  • Host interface bandwidth via global bus in excess of 100 Mbytes/s @ 33MHz PCI clock
  • Host interface via ComPort in excess of 10 Mbytes/s
  • Buffered External ComPort
  • Expansion via interprocessor ComPorts
  • 1Mbyte Shared SRAM interface between PCI and Module
